Major Window Replacement & Insulation Upgrade Completed – Third & Fourth Floors

We are proud to announce the successful completion of a comprehensive window replacement and insulation project on the third and fourth floors of our historic fraternity house. This much-needed upgrade preserves the building’s classic architectural character while dramatically improving comfort, energy efficiency, and long-term sustainability.

Project Highlights

  1. Premium Andersen Double-Hung Windows. Every window was replaced with high-quality Andersen double-hung windows featuring low-E glass, composite Fibrex® frames, and traditional divided-lite grilles to match the original historic appearance. These windows offer superior performance while maintaining the aesthetic required by the City of Madison for our landmark building.
  2. Full Insulation Installation. Where no insulation previously existed in the wall cavities around the windows, we added high-density spray foam and rigid insulation (R-13+). This eliminated cold spots and air infiltration that had plagued the upper floors for decades.
  3. Professional Sealing, Drywall Repair & Painting. All new windows were sealed with premium exterior and interior sealants, followed by expert drywall patching, priming, and repainting to achieve a flawless, like-new finish in every room.
  4. Immediate Comfort Improvement. Upon completion, actives reported noticeably warmer rooms with zero drafts—even on windy days.
  5. Long-Term Value & Peace of Mind. While this was a significant investment, the energy savings, elimination of drafts, and enhanced curb appeal make it one of the most impactful upgrades in the house’s recent history.

This project is only phase 1 of the window replacement project that when completed will reduce heating costs and protect integrity and value of the house for future generations of brothers. Thank you to our dedicated alumni, donors, Kappa Sigma Building Association, and the skilled contractors who made this transformation possible.

Warmer rooms. Lower bills. Preserved history. Another step forward for Kappa Sigma Beta Epsilon Chapter.
