Military Heroes Campaign
The Kappa Sigma Military Heroes Campaign is dedicated to providing vital support to military veterans and their families. Since its founding in 2007, the campaign has raised over $2 million to fund non-profit organizations that offer essential services to veterans across the United States and Canada. These efforts are driven by the belief that every veteran deserves stability, care, and a strong network of community support. Through philanthropic events, donations, and direct contributions from undergraduate Kappa Sigma Chapters, the campaign continues to play an active role in improving the lives of those who have served. Events such as the Xi-Beta Chapter at Northeastern University’s annual Military Heroes 5K and Brother Michael Hall’s participation in the Homes For Our Troops Golf Tournament exemplify the spirit of giving back that defines our mission.
Each year, Kappa Sigma challenges its Chapters and Colonies across North America to take part in the Annual Military Heroes Month Competition, a coordinated effort to raise funds and awareness for the cause. This initiative not only unites our Brotherhood in service but also reinforces our deep appreciation for those who risk their lives to preserve our freedoms. In addition to supporting veteran-related causes of their choice, Chapters are encouraged to work with established Military Heroes Campaign partner charities, ensuring that our collective impact reaches those who need it most. Through these ongoing efforts, the Military Heroes Campaign remains a testament to Kappa Sigma’s commitment to service, leadership, and brotherhood.
Humorology
Humorology is the largest student-run philanthropy event and variety show in the state of Wisconsin, bringing together students from across the University of Wisconsin–Madison in a yearlong effort to raise funds for local charitable organizations. The production runs from August to April each year, beginning with the selection of beneficiaries over the summer. Fundraising efforts launch in September as individual casts begin preparing their performances and hosting events to support their chosen cause. The entire process culminates in a vibrant and highly anticipated series of final performances each spring, held at Shannon Hall in Memorial Union. For the 2024–25 season, Humorology is proud to present Magic In The Air this April, with proceeds benefiting Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center.
Beyond the stage, Humorology has made a profound impact on the Dane County community. Over the years, it has raised millions of dollars for a variety of local nonprofits, including $520,000 for the Canopy Center of Dane County, $490,000 for Logan’s Hearts and Smiles, and $441,000 for the Respite Center at RISE Wisconsin. Additional beneficiaries have included the Badger Childhood Cancer Network, the Rainbow Project, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dane County, and many more. These contributions reflect the dedication and creativity of the students involved, who commit months of hard work not only to put on a show but to make a meaningful difference in their community.
For many students, Humorology is more than just a philanthropic effort—it’s a defining part of their college experience. As one student, Carly Shindler, reflected, “Humorology has shaped my college career. I cannot imagine my time at the University of Wisconsin–Madison without it. Raising money for a local organization while directing a musical from scratch is the most unique experience ever, and I am so grateful.” This blend of service, performance, and student leadership is what makes Humorology such a treasured tradition on campus.
